Smoke Alarms – It’s The Law

Did you know it was compulsory to have smoke alarms installed in all residential buildings in Victoria? The Building Regulations 2006 specify that the installed smoke alarms must meet the Australian Standard AS 3786-1993.

For buildings constructed after 1 August 1997, the smoke alarms must be hard wired into the building’s mains power source, as well as having a battery backup. To be compliant, they must be installed by a qualified electrician, like one of the team at Truelight Electrical & Data. Buildings constructed prior to 1 August 1997 can have a battery-powered smoke alarm.
